White Ribbon Campaign underway

All our Community Ambassadors have been busy planning  activities in their high schools, to advise peers about domestic abuse and where to go for help if they feel they need it.

The Ambassadors plan to hold assemblies, ask fellow students to sign a pledge against domestic abuse which we will load onto the White Ribbon Campaign website, set up information stands and wear white ribbons all to raise awareness.

16 Days of Action

Our ‘16 Days Of Action’, in support of the White Ribbon Campaign against domestic abuse starts on 25th November and runs until 10th December.  This international campaign encourages men to speak out against violence against women and girls.

Our theme this year is a white tree either 1D or 3D with personal pledge ribbons/hands or leaves which all students can be part of.  We have had fantastic support previously from all the high schools across Wyre Forest and look forward to working alongside your Community Ambassadors again in raising awareness on domestic abuse.

Launch of new Ambassadors

Representative from our high schools
Community Ambassador representatives

Last week saw the training of the new group of Community Ambassadors who take up their role in September.

Over 70 students, across Wyre Forest and Hagley, joined forces to learn how to promote positive messages on community safety and citizenship to their peers.

The training, delivered by Vestia, was a huge success with all the participants really getting involved, overcoming their nerves and working well together.

The Community Ambassadors learnt how to recognise their skills and qualities; the various methods available to help improve their confidence when speaking in public, waus of sourcing information and how to deliver factual presentations and events on the issues of personal safety, anti-bullying, healthy relations and crime prevention.

The project is jointly managed by Safer Wyre Forest and The ContinU Trust and funded by the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner.  Schools involved in the project are Baxter College, The Bewdley School, ContinU Plus Academy, Hagley Catholic High School, Wolverley C of E Secondary, Stourport High School, King Charles 1 School and Haybridge High School.

Camera – Action – Young People

Community Ambassadors have been working with CONNECTING NEIGHBOURHOODS CIC who were awarded funding by the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner to work with young people to produce 3 community safety themed short videos.

A series of films based around young people, domestic abuse, drugs and the police are being made and posted onto the new website www.cameraactionyoungpeople.co.uk/community-ambassadors/

A few of the Community Ambassadors have been filmed explaining their role and how they can promote positive key messages to their peers in school and outside of school around issues like: crime prevention, anti-bullying, healthy relationships, volunteering, citizenship and staying safe.

Safer Internet Day

Community Ambassadors at King Charles lead on the national “Safer Internet Day” within their school to raise awareness on staying safe when using the internet.

Through assemblies, the Ambassadors were able to provide information on staying safe when using the many methods of social media available to young people.
